Stanford research done with LBUSD Middle and High School students revealed that both students and teachers felt uneasy about AI, leading to a negative culture of guilt and policing around its use. The goal of the AI Trust You add-on is to "flip the script" by fostering open dialogue, creating a common language, and encouraging integrity around AI usage.
For Teachers: Select from the four AI technique categories—Content Creation, Content Understanding, Research Assistance, and Audio-Visual Generation—to specify how students are allowed to use AI on a particular assignment. The add-on generates a clear assignment guideline text for students, so expectations are transparent.
For Students: They will select the AI tool they used (e.g., ChatGPT) and identify the techniques and the percentage of their work that was AI-assisted. The add-on then creates a citation for students to include in their assignments, documenting how AI was used.
This tool is not meant to be used with every assignment, but for key ones where AI integration is important. By providing clarity on AI's role, we can foster a healthy learning environment where students feel supported and understood, and cheating concerns are reduced. The add-on builds a common language around AI techniques, which promotes open, honest conversations.
